this is why i got no work done tonight
Just some of the many brilliant videos that have been hiding on YouTube and that I never looked for before tonight. Apparently my law school is the only one in the world that didn't have a Law Revue. Go figure.
NYU Law Revue presents "Jurisdiction"
Real Men Of Law School: Jobs Guy
"Promiscuous Firm"
and finally:
Despite the fact that it would be a whole lot better if it was about "Pieper Girl", this is pretty funny stuff.

Person of Law School
PERSON OF LAW SCHOOL
2005 - 2008

PAT C.
PAT C.
Just the other day, Pat commented on how his "Person of the [ ]" worthiness peaked in December 2005. Although I stopped regularly giving out the P.O.M. award shortly after he won it, and though I can't say for sure that he ever would have won an individual month after that, his selection for "Person of Law School" is an easy choice. Overall, I can't think of a single other person who has played such a large role in the past three years of my life.
I knew I wanted to be friends with Pat before we even met. And as proof, I have a snippet from an entry I wrote in my much more personal and private "blog" nearly three years ago:
He became the first person that I added to the "Hofstra" section of my buddy list, and remembering now how I wanted to know him then makes it even crazier to me that Pat actually became one of the best friends I made at Hofstra. We started as AIM friends before gradually developing an "in person" friendship through EMF's Larry Lockett project; by the end of 1L year, between Bluebooking, late night IM paper writing, merciless teasing because of my extreme sadness over Tony Almeida's death on 24 (although apparently I got the last laugh there, since enough people were pissed off about his death to actually bring him back to the show, even if he's going to be a bad guy), Kingdom of Loathing, and covert study sessions, he'd become my best friend at law school. The summer after 1L year, an apartment broker showed Mary and me an apartment that was coincidentally three or four houses down from Pat, and we became neighbors.
Over the next two years, Pat and I went through periods where we saw each other and talked to each other less than we had, but ultimately, I always knew that Pat was someone that I could count on to be there for the fun times, like birthdays, and for the not-so-fun times, like sitting in my apartment for a few hours waiting for the Verizon guy to come while I went to class. I couldn't possibly begin to list here all of the law school memories I have that involve Pat, but one thing is for sure: in the three years since I received an IM from a stranger on my 24th birthday, Pat became and remained one of the most consistent people in my life.
I guess this is already long enough (although in my defense, this is technically about 33 p.o.m.'s all in one), so to wrap it up, I'll just say a quick thank you to Pat for three years of secondhand smoke, more comic book trivia than I ever could have wanted, and just for being him. Next stop: two months of Pieper and then the Bar Exam (which apparently he told Briton's mom that I was responsible for ensuring that they both pass). Looking forward to it ;)

The other nice "birthday acknowledgement" surprise came from this kid Patrick from Hofstra, who I "met" on Facebook (he added me on MySpace yesterday as well) and who is in all of my classes. He got my screenname from Facebook and sent me an IM yesterday afternoon to say happy birthday, which was nice. Maybe we'll be friends. I hope so, so that I can refer back to this entry and be like "hey! That was the first time I mentioned Patrick!" August 27, 2005

Becky (9:03:47 PM) : OMG
Becky (9:03:56 PM) : i just emailed john [professor] the table of consanguinity
Me (9:04:57 PM) : instead of john [law student]?
Becky (9:05:30 PM) : yessss
. . .
Me (9:10:19 PM) : maybe i can "accidentally" send a marriage proposal to troy?
Becky (9:10:33 PM) : hahahaha
Becky (9:10:38 PM) : that would NOT be an accident!
Me (9:11:22 PM) : "sorry, meant to send that to your dad"
Becky (9:11:39 PM) : LOL
Me (9:12:30 PM) : i can be your new mommy, troy!
Becky (9:12:44 PM) : hahahahahahahahahahaha
Becky (9:13:03 PM) : tell him he can discuss his inheritance with his father, who now has the complete table

damn it, it's the 11th edition, these kinds of mistakes should not be appearing
Granted I'm not exactly an authority when it comes to spelling and grammar (case in point: when writing up my group's poster board in mediation the other day, I had to ask Jason and Adam how to spell "irresponsible". Not that I didn't know how, but sometimes I fall into that trap where I'm used to the little red line telling me if I've made a mistake . . . I digress), but as I did my reading for Wills this morning, I was appalled by all of the spelling and grammar mistakes I came across, and now, in TWO pages of Crim. Pro. reading, I've found three typos already. In the eleventh edition of a textbook that has four editors.
I've circled them all and am going to make a list. Consider this a work in progress.

- Some jurisdictions allow person's arrested on lower-level felonies to gain their release . . .
- Where the arrestee is not released (the police having decided to charge), the arrestee must be brought before the magistrate within a 24 or 48 hours . . .
- That decision most often is based on anticipated difficulties of proof (e.g., the evidence is insufficient, the victim is reluctance to testify . . .

what i learned in my mediation class this week
- I will never, ever, ever date a guy named Ted
- The line "There is only ONE creep in my life and he's sitting across the table from me!" is guaranteed to get a laugh
- Nick was a university department chair in another life
- If a guy tells you he thinks he's falling in love with you on your 4th date, there's a 1 in 4 chance that he's going to end up beating the crap out of you
- Any expression of any kind of sentiment, or any statement at all for that matter, should be responded to with the statement "So you're saying . . ." or "So I sense that . . ."
- If your child is getting Ds in gym class, it's probably because her goth boots are weighing her down
- The best way to solve money issues with your roommate is to hold a bake sale
- Have I mentioned that guys named Ted are CREEPS!
- the right answer is always "empowerment" or "recognition"
- oh yeah, and something about the transformative framework?

not a good sign . . .

. . . when the first question on my copyright final is the Chewy Vuiton case from Trademarks and the second question on my copyright final is the sex toys case that I thought was so funny back in September and yet I still managed to blow it.

bezdek at her best
I never considered myself a violent person, but one day in the near future, Rob and I are going to have a party in the law review office that's six months overdue.
