one week closer to argentina . . .

um . . . and the bar exam. But I still found it necessary to take this quiz, out of morbid curiosity. Too bad I'd have to die to cash in on that $4290 . . . I could definitely use it just about now . . .

in honor of the dark knight

and since I was appalled that Briton had never even heard of this movie, let alone seen it, I present to you the finest moment of Christian Bale's career.

God I love this movie, even though I guess there's a reason why Christian Bale doesn't talk about it . . . and it starts at 2:11 . . . hahaha

for briton!

So . . . I didn't actually watch this whole video, but I did skip to the end and it has Paul's phone number.

So I suppose we could just call him and ask him if he's the mole.

Wikipedia is amazing . . .

And I'm back to work now. And by "back to work" I mean back to attempting to read the notes that I've been sitting here trying to read for the past three hours and that I'm still not done with. Two more weeks!

this is officially the coolest site ever

Because we're officially halfway done with 2008 and because I'm officially keeping track of my 2008 soundtrack as the year goes by this time instead of trying to compile it in December and because I will officially be done with all three days of the bar exams three weeks from today and that thought makes me happy (and also terrifies me), and because I am obsessed with the idea of this site (even though hardly any of the music files on my computer are .mp3 files and I had to spend about 15 minutes downloading mp3s of these songs just for the site and I still couldn't find a couple of them that will definitely make the mix) . . . I present to you my official 2008 soundtrack . . . or the first half of it, at least! (Check back in December for the explanations of why these made the mix . . . I've wasted enough time already!)

Click here to listen to it!

"i'd say get a monkey, and just torture the hell out of it"

So I was attempting to find the theme song from MTV's "The State" on mp3 so that I could do one last "bonus round" trivia contest, since clearly my last one was too easy, and I don't know that ANYONE who reads this would have gotten "The State." I did find it, but I got very sidetracked when I discovered the trailer for The Ten

which I promptly ordered from amazon.com. Adam Brody? Liev Schreiber? Paul Rudd? Directed by David Wain? WHY HAVE I NOT SEEN THIS MOVIE?

The State's official website also reported that they actually made a box set of the entire series

but MTV is dragging their asses with releasing it. There is pretty much no price that I wouldn't pay for that box set. It's that brilliant. Nerve & IFC agreed, with four of The State's skits appearing in their "50 Greatest Comedy Sketches of All Time" list.

I could sing The State's praises all day, but I have this little test in 3 1/2 weeks that I should be studying for, so I'll just leave you with my two favorite sketches (God, it's like choosing between children):

Porcupine Racetrack

Louie & the Last Supper

tv theme song trivia: now with 100% more sound clips

Apparently my TV theme song trivia was too easy! They've all been correctly guessed now, so scroll on down and check it out if there were any that stumped you.

I thought I'd be all clever and post a bunch more TV theme songs with sound clips instead of lyrics to make it even more challenging (although I think that my last post was easy enough that nobody had to resort to googling until after the fact). Hopefully this works!

Annnnnd.... less than an hour later, they're all guessed. The names of the shows and the guessers (or the Gessers, haha) are listed below.

  1. Number One - How I Met Your Mother - Briton

  2. Number Two - Futurama - Pat

tv theme song trivia

After spending at least half an hour last night looking up old TV show opening credits on YouTube with Briton, I thought maybe a litle TV theme song trivia was in order (anything to put off doing this MPT a little longer, although in my defense, I'm already done watching class for the day and if I had actually gone to school, I'd still have another half an hour, so I'm ACTUALLY ahead of schedule. Ignore the fact that I should have done the MPT yesterday before watching the DVD instead of fast forwarding through the MPT review. Shut up.)

It's more fun if you don't Google - mostly childhood favorites in here, but I threw in a couple of modern ones just to keep you on your toes! Post your guesses in the comments :)
  1. Maybe the world is blind or just a little unkind, don't know. Seems you can't be sure of anything anymore. Although, you may be lonely and then one day you're smiling again. Punky Brewster - Briton
  2. Don't know about the future, that's anybody's guess. Ain't no good reason for getting all depressed. Blossom - Bonnie
  3. Show me that smile again, don't waste another minute on your crying. We're nowhere near the end, the best is ready to begin! Growing Pains - Becky
  4. They’re the world’s most fearsome fighting teens (we're really hip!) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Becky
  5. Clouds as mean as you've ever seen and a bird who knows your tune. Then a little voice inside you whispers, "Kid, don't sell your dreams so soon!" Full House (first season theme song) - Briton
  6. Rain and thunder, wind and haze, I'm bound for better days! It's my life, my dream, nothing's gonna stop me now! Perfect Strangers - Scott
  7. So long ago, another life, I can feel your heartbeat. It's not a dream, remember us? I can see it in your eyes. The 4400 - Pat
  8. Better watch out for those man-eating jackrabbits and that killer cacti Hey Dude - Pat (and Scott too, but Pat beat him by ten minuetes!)
  9. There's a path you take and a path not taken, the choice is up to you my friend. Who's the Boss? - Becky
  10. She had style! She had flair! She was there! - The Nanny - Becky
  11. Whenever my life gets me so down, I know I can go down to where the music and the fun never ends! Roundhouse - Scott
  12. Your friends will be there when your back is to the wall. You'll find you need us when there's no one else to call. 21 Jump Street - Christy
  13. Seems like you're always stuck in second gear when it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year! Friends - Becky
  14. We run, we jump, we swim and play. We row and go on trips. But the things that last forever are our dear friendships. Salute Your Shorts - Becky
  15. Where are those good old fashioned values on which we used to rely? Family Guy - Becky

this is why i got no work done tonight

Just some of the many brilliant videos that have been hiding on YouTube and that I never looked for before tonight. Apparently my law school is the only one in the world that didn't have a Law Revue. Go figure.

NYU Law Revue presents "Jurisdiction"

Real Men Of Law School: Jobs Guy

"Promiscuous Firm"

and finally:

Despite the fact that it would be a whole lot better if it was about "Pieper Girl", this is pretty funny stuff.

i promise this is the last post of the day

This ad in my Entertainment Weekly made me laugh out loud.

You can click on it to enlarge it, but if you're lazy:

Text at the top: "Body odor protection recommended by former TV doctors, like me." -Neil Patrick Harris, EX TV MD.

At the bottom: "You don't need a real doctor to get protection against the torment of chronic body odor and wetness. You need Old Spice Pro Strength Antiperspirant. It's prescription-strength wetness protection without the prescription. Take it from me, I used to be a fake doctor."

Mix CD Monday - Greatest Hits of Freshman Year - 1999-2000

I've been meaning to start doing this for a while, and I was inspired by seeing so many of my close friends from freshman year this weekend. Plus I figured with tons of studying to do, as always, I needed an excuse to put it off a little longer ;)

FRESHMAN YEAR MIX: GREATEST HITS OF 1999-2000

  1. "Beautiful" - Aztek Trip. I discovered these guys the summer before freshman year and by the end of the school year, I had all of my circle of friends hooked and these guys were practically our friends. (Well . . . more so Carla's than the rest of us, but they all knew who we were!) I have no clue what happened to this band, but this song was amazing.
  2. "Here with Me" - Dido. This song was the theme song to that show Roswell on the WB and Kellee and Carla were obsessed with it - even when the show wasn't on, they were playing it or singing it or SOMETHING. When Kellee and I wrote our "Ballad of 2007", it even made it into Carla's section of the song.
  3. "Another Brick in the Wall Part 2" - Pink Floyd. I don't know who thought that this was a good hockey warmup song - it was either Vinny or Todd. Crappy warmup song or not, the song itself will always remind me of freshman year.
  4. "All The Small Things" - Blink-182. Aside from Schleppy mocking me in the hockey vans on the way home from practice for liking this song and Blink-182, this song reminds me of walking home to Brittany up University Place from Weinstein with Carla and singing this while doing the dance.
  5. "Little Black Backpack" - Stroke 9. Loooooooved this song so severely.
  6. "Am I Wrong?" - Love Spit Love. I found this one accidentally on Napster when I was trying to download something else. Whatever it was that I was trying to find, I'm glad I found this because it ended up becoming one of my favorite songs and one of my favorite quotes ever from college (I wish I could remember who said it!) was when I was speaking the lyrics "You're so pale in your face, you let life get in your way" and the other person who I don't remember responded with, "Wow . . . what do you see in my face?"
  7. "You Sexy Thing" - Hot Chocolate. I can't hear the phrase "I believe in miracles" without singing this song and I can't think of this song without thinking of Mike and LeMutt.
  8. "Baba O'Riley" - The Who. Now THIS was an amazing hockey warmup song. This song made every single college mix CD that I made. If I had to pick a single song to define my college experience, this was it. To this day, the opening instrumental to this song gets me inspired the way it used to every time the hockey team hit the ice to it.
  9. "Angels" - Robbie Williams. Another great song that came out that year, I wanted to throw Jessica Simpson out a window when she covered it. You don't mess with something as amazing as this song.
  10. "Hot Blooded" - Foreigner. Two words: Brian Murphy.
  11. "Calculus (U+Me=US)" - 2Gether. I forgot about this song until I just saw it on my CD cover. This is everything a pop song should be.
  12. "Bent" - Matchbox Twenty. I couldn't wait for this album to come out - for the longest time, I had this song downloaded from Napster with an advertisement with the name of the radio station it was being played on right in the middle of it. The first time I heard the song without it, it sounded so weird to me. I remember driving down to MD with Janeen listening to this CD and wanting to race my car like in the video.
  13. "Just A Friend" - Biz Markie. I discovered this song because Barenaked Ladies used to cover it in their end-of-show medleys - 207 used to play it all the time.
  14. "One Song Glory" - Rent. I am the only person in New York who didn't see Rent while it was on Broadway. But Kellee used to play this song all the time and I absolutely loved it.
  15. "Fishheads" - Dr. Demento. I want to say that one of us from 207 actually saw a fishhead on the street at some point . . . I think my real love of this song though came not from the literal fishheads, but because of the crush I had on "Fish". There were defintely a ton of fish jokes going around 207 first semester that year and this song was a natural addition.
  16. "Take a Picture" - Filter. I can vividly remember the video this song from the amount of times I saw it on College Television Network. Ahh, CTN . . . best channel ever.
  17. "Bye Bye Bye" - N'Sync. The amazing thing about having a suitemate on the dance team was that Carla could do this whole dance - unfortunately, I was too spazzy to pick up much of it from her. Maaaan did we love N'Sync. I'm pretty sure that Carla and I were at the Virgin Megastore at midnight the day this album was released to pick it up. It ain't no lie. Bye bye bye.

nobody will understand this except for mary and liz, but re-reading it almost made me wet myself

March 11, 2003, approximately 2am

KERRI: Mary, we're sick. Maybe I shouldn't stay with them after all. I mean, I do know other people who live in Stamford.

MARY: You could stay with Eli!

KERRI: Actually, I was thinking of Ryan's family. I'm sure they have like 900 guest rooms in their mansion.

MARY: I bet they do live in a mansion.

KERRI: Of course they do. They have to. They probably own half the town. It's like Dan and Eli live in Stamford, and then Ryan lives in Stamhughes.

MARY: (fit of laughter)

KERRI: I mean, they probably have nine of every type of room in the house.

MARY: Each guest room is probably dedicated to a year in Ryan's life. Diana would probably be like, "So, you want to stay in the 12-year-old room?"

KERRI: (now hysterically laughing, then growing serious) Hey. You know what I was thinking tonight in the bathroom, as I looked at that picture of Ryan?

MARY: What's that?

KERRI: About how much it must suck to be Tim.

MARY: (silent, wondering where I'm going with this)

KERRI: I mean really. He's the first born child. And yet everything is Ryan, Ryan, Ryan. I mean seriously! Every time I think to myself, "Wow, my life sucks", I have to remind myself, "Well, I could be Tim Hughes."

MARY: (now erupting in uncontrollable laughter)

KERRI: I mean who really names their SECOND son after the father? Tim's gotta feel so shafted.

MARY: (nearly falling off the bed from laughing) I can't breathe

KERRI: This isn't funny! Think about how Tim feels!

MARY: I never have! I never stopped to think about Tim!

KERRI: Here Ryan is, going off and becoming Captain America and poor Tim is just living in his shadow! I bet if we went to their house, Tim's room's been turned into a huge display case for Ryan's trophies!

MARY: (laughing uncontrollably) Kerri, I'm crying.

KERRI: (crying as well from laughing so hard) Well we should be crying! Tim probably cries every day of his life! I mean Ryan is the proverbial glue that holds New York University together. What has Tim done? His parents don't care about him!

MARY: Maybe he's not even really their kid. Maybe they adopted him, thinking they'd never have a son, and then Ryan came along and was some kind of medical miracle and that's why they love Ryan so much.

KERRI: Poor Tim. I'm making a banner for our room over Spring Break that says "C3-3AA Loves Tim Hughes."

MARY: Oh! And we could hang it in our window then!

KERRI: Yeah! And then [The Other] Dan will look out his window and see it and say, "WOW! I love Tim Hughes TOO!" And HE'LL hang up a sign that says that!

MARY: YEAH!

KERRI: And then Kenny Boom Boom will look out HIS window and see Dan's sign, and he'll be like, "Tim? Who's that? They must mean Ryan. Well, I love Ryan. I'm going to make a sign that says that."

(uncontrollable laughter from both of us. Both of us are crying. Both of us have pains in our stomach.)

MARY: I'm going to feel bad for us tomorrow morning.

KERRI: Not as bad as you should feel for Tim.

MARY: (a pause, as if reflecting) Yes. (Another pause) A moment of silence for Tim Hughes?

(we're silent for about 10 seconds, then crack up laughing again)

return of the procrastination surveys

1. What's something that happened to you when you were 8?:
I got my my parakeet Spaghetti for my 8th birthday

2. What's a good memory you have of you and a friend of yours from 4th grade?:
Susan and I were writing our hit TV series "Christy's Camp" and Joey and I had an obsession with the word "radish."

3. Describe your earliest memory
:
I have since been told that this memory never actually happened, but I have a memory of falling out of my crib and having Scott from across the street catch me. Although I suppose if Scott was the one who caught me, he was the only one who was there, so maybe he's the one I should be asking if it actually happened.

4. Describe your first kiss:
I was at Matt's house watching The Sandlot. We got distracted towards the end. That's all I have to say about that.

5. What was your first day of school like this year?:
This semester? I guess technically the first day of school was part of that mediation course. It was fine except it was over winter break and it was from 8:30-5:30 for 6 days. It was rough.

6. Funniest memory you have with your current love interest?:
Nobody even knows who my "current love interest" is so I'll avoid "outing" him here by sharing one of the many funny memories we've shared, so instead I'll go with Troy. Although Troy and I have never actually shared any funny memories. Sigh. My favorite Troy moment though was definitely the champagne toast on the last day of class.

7. What happened on your first day of your first job?:
Oh man. I had such a major crush on Dave and was so excited that I got to actually meet him. But then I remember having the most awkward conversation with him ever when everyone else got up to smoke and left us sitting alone at the table. Which essentially consisted of him asking me about 90 questions and after every single answer saying "Oh. That's nice."

8. Describe the first concert you went to:
Soul Asylum with Matthew Sweet, Victoria Williams and the Jayhawks. I went with my mom and Lauren and her mom. I remember the opening bands seemed to drag on FOREVER.

9. What happened yesterday?:
Pat picked us up at 8:30, we went to McDonalds to grab breakfast, then headed to bar prep (with Troy!!) until 1:15 and Troy got an answer wrong towards the end and I wanted to hug him. Briton and I printed our notes, then we went with Pat to the comic book store. We came back, Briton and I went back out to Quiznos, which we ate while watching an episode of Full House. Then I went to Target, came back, did work for a couple of hours, and then we sat on the couch and were bums watching Father of the Bride and Celebrity Circus. There's more than you needed to know about what happened yesterday.

10. Favorite memory with your best friend?:
Oh man. There are about 100 thousand favorite memories and I don't know where to start. But I think that one of my favorites, which I was just telling Elizabeth about the other night, was the night we realized how much it must suck to be Tim Hughes. See my next post, which I just found and feel a need to post since Liz told me that I haven't posted anything since she started regularly visiting ;)

11. Random memory from when you were in preschool:
I don't remember anything from preschool except that my friends were Erin and Scott. And there might have been a Kristen in there?

12. What happened on the last field trip you went on?:
The last "field trip" I went on was probably to Senegal. It was Senegal. It was awesome.

13. How was the last concert you went to?:
The Spill Canvas was pretty awesome, although I think I like them better on the album. And they didn't play "Himerus and Eros" which I think I might almost love more than "All Hail The Heartbreaker" (which they did play though, so yaaay)

14. How did you discover your favorite band?:
Depends if we're going with my favorite band being Straylight Run or Brand New . . . either way, I discovered both through Taking Back Sunday, although I guess technically I just stumbled across Straylight Run at a free Rooney show before I moved out of the city. But I wouldn't have cared about seeing them if I hadn't read that John and Shaun were from Taking Back Sunday. Brand New I discovered when I heard of the John Nolan/Jesse Lacey feud and I went to download "Seventy Times Seven".

15. What happened on Valentine's Day this year?:
I went to work, then came home and was going to stay in and watch Lost with Mary, but then Becky convinced me to go over to Carle Place to watch it and she made Pat and I do the Lost trivia contest, which was the hardest thing ever but I WON, and then we went there for Lost and I think I went to Pat's to play Mario Galaxy afterwards.

16. Tell us a random memory from middle school:
When my mom drove us home from the roller skating night and Ryder told her the wrong house because he wasn't ready to go home yet and she knew it wasn't his house but pulled into the driveway anyway and then he got really embarrassed.

17. Random memory you have of your grandmother?:
going with her and my mom to the GAP in Huntington every Thursday in elementary school

18. Random memory from third grade?:
I feel like I have more 2nd grade memories than 3rd grade memories so I'll combine the two and mention that Paul and I used to go to the 3rd grade class for math because we were too advanced for our 2nd grade class, and I remember that nobody in Mrs. Strong's class was able to get the right answer to the problem on the board, but Paul and I were able to figure it out. We were awesome.

19. What's one memory you have about your first pet(s)?:
My first "pets" were two goldfish named Goldie and Danny that I bought with my garage sale money in first grade.

20. What memory do you have when you first moved into your current house?:
I remember that we didn't have hot water for at least the first week after moving here! And thinking it was funny that the people who lived here before us were Candy and Brandi and that some people think that Mary and my names rhyme. Oddly enough, I just told Briton today about Candy and Brandy's existence and then about half an hour ago, some guy from Cablevision showed up at my door looking for Brandi. WEEEIRD.

ted mosby is a jerk

Dear Self,

Don't let Troy's e-mail go to your head. You are going to fail the bar exam if you continue to do things like spend twenty minutes on this website listening to this stupid song instead of doing any of the assigned reading for class.

Love, Kerri

This entry is also brought to you by (not BUY - thank you to my spell-checker Becky for catching that typo on my last post) my procrastination.

The chat pane in its entirety, which provides just one of the many reasons why I love Melissa, reads:

Melissa L: this game is so lost themed
Melissa L: fated
Melissa L: dire
Melissa L: jin
Melissa L: pee
Melissa L: ok that's a reach but i'm sure they pee

not feeling outlining = return of the procrastination surveys

Haven't done one of these in a while, and this Long Island one is going around MySpace

BASICS

1) What town are you from?
Port Jefferson Station

2) Live on the island your whole life?
Except for the five years I was in NYC

3) are you going to stay forever?
There's plenty of other places I'd like to live, but the majority of my family is here, so I don't see myself going anywhere unless they do

4) what parking lot did you waste your youth in?
haha, did people actually do that? I don't know anyone who hung out in parking lots

5) name four famous people from the island:
I use the term "famous" loosely to include my love Jesse Lacey, along with Billy Joel, Lindsey Lohan and Mariah Carey

6) ever work at a 7-11 or a supermarket?
Nope

8) anyone in your family ever been in newsday?
Ha, my brother and I both got our names in the "HS graduation" editions, my aunt wrote a letter to the editor, and I'm sure there have been other mentions through the years

9) have you been inducted at the bawdy barn?
Um, it's Boardy Barn. And nooo, I do not do beer.

10) should long island be its own state?
No way, we're more "New York" than the top part of the state! Unless you gave us the five boroughs too, because we pretty much ARE our own state.

CHOOSE ONE

1) 2am taco bell or 2am wendy’s?
Taco Bell! What kind of question is this?

2) yuppy puppy or NSAL?
NSAL hands down . . . my friend got a puppy at the Yuppy Puppy and it was dead within a month. That place is horrible

3) starbucks or dunkin donuts/baskin robins?
Port Jeff actually has a Dunkin Donuts and a Baskin Robbins that are separate from each other

4) mulcahy’s or the nutty irishman?
Never been to either . . . nappertandys

5) parkways or back roads?
back roads, although it's pretty hard to avoid the parkways

6) north shore or south shore?
North shore!!!!!!

7) east end or west end?
middle . . . east end is pretty but too rural, and nassau county is nassau (enough said). Western Suffolk is the way to go.

8) train into the city or drive?
I love the LIRR but will never say no to somebody else driving

9) brand new or taking back sunday?
BRAND NEW!! Oh my God, I'm so glad this was a question! Haha.

10) you have more family in florida or north carolina?
North Carolina . . . haha, I love that this was a question too.

HAVE YOU EVER

1) been to the lighthouse?:
Yes

2) been to the statue of liberty?:
Haha, if you include going to Ellis Island and stopping the ferry to let people off at the statue of liberty. And I didn't do that until I was 21.

3) rocked out to billy joel with your friends in the car?:
Who hasn't?

4) been to two different 7-11s in the same day?:
Absolutely

5) we know you live on an island but, have you even been on a boat?:
yes.

6) driven from brooklyn to the lighthouse?
No

7) driven to the city for no reason?:
nope

8) driven to montauk for no reason?:
nope

9) been to the planetarium?
yep!

10) been to united skates?
Just Amaze N Skates before it closed . . . no clue where united skates was

Outlets and the jail

2) i say centereach you say?
Middle Country Road

3) i say port jeff you say?

BEST

1) Best diner?
Seaport

2) best food from that diner?
Cheese fries

3) best mall?
Smithhaven was what I grew up with . . . it was always so crappy compared to Roosevelt Field, but they've done some nice stuff with it in the past few years

4) best beach?
Jones Beach

5) best pizza?
Colosseo

6) best mini golf?
all the good mini golf places closed

7) movie theatre?
PJ Cinemas, even though I can't ever go back there for personal reasons

8) public park?
never spent much time in parks

9) best ices?
Ralph's

10) best billy joel song
Just one? Seriously? I love "And So It Goes"

THINGS ONLY PEOPLE FROM LONG ISLAND WILL GET:

1) fire island is gay or totally cool?
I wouldn't say "totally cool", and I never even went there until I was 24, but it's definitely more cool than gay (and as a quick disclaimer, not that "gay" cannot be "cool", I'm just saying the Fire Island = gay stereotype is pretty misguided)

2) are you sick of people asking you about the Amityville horror house?:
I haven't really gotten questions about it since that movie with Melissa "I severely hate you" George came out, so no

3) is the psych center haunted?
Probably not, but if there was a place on LI that would be haunted, that would be it

4) you still hope they’re building that bridge to Connecticut:
nah, that would be boring if the Port Jeff Ferry was obsolete, that's our claim to fame

5) is montauk really “the end”?
oh yeah.
